Now get to wurq!

Karl (does he ever just sit on the couch with Choupette, doing nothing?) has a new project. Besides designing two couture collections, two prêt-à-porter collections, his collections for Fendi, his own label, cleaning out Choupette’s litter, yet again a new hobby. He directed a 30-minute film about one of the most prestigious collections at Chanel. I once had the indescribable pleasure of attending one of those Métier d’Art shows. And a party it was! 10 December will be the date it’ll all happen again in Dallas, Texas. Next to being the last place our beloved Jackie O saw her husband alive, Karl chose Dallas as this year’s Métier d’Art location. Chanel bought eight Parisian workplaces in 1997 (the house Lésage, for example, that makes the most gorgeous embroideries). They practically invented craftsmanship. And this show always features the workplaces’ best creations. Think of dresses with a dazzling amount of beads, rare gems, dyed peacock feathers and complicated lace collars. All the guests will get to see the film right before the start of the show.

Why did Karl decide on Dallas? Each Métier d’Art show takes place in a city with which Mademoiselle Chanel had a connection. She felt attracted to India because of Boy Capel. Or had a Russian lover and so the show has also been held in Russia. She loved to hunt in Scotland, which hosted last year’s show. After her 1954 comeback, only the American press had raving reviews and so this is a kind of thank you. Let’s hope that she couldn’t get enough of young cheese, clogs and mills. That way, we Dutchmen can hopefully take a closer look soon.

Last year, the show took place in Edinburgh and it looked like this.
