In love with Dallas
The most beautiful show I’ve ever seen was the métier d’arts Paris Bombay from Chanel.
Besides the prêt-à-porter, the cruise collection and, of course, the haute couture, Karl decided to also work on his métier d’arts. This show goes to extreme lengths to celebrate craftsmanship. Hats from Maison Michel. Embroideries from Lésage, all the handiwork and craftsmanship is celebrated and on display. And it’s so beautiful. As you might happen to know, or not, Chanel bought eight ateliers in the early 2000s (like the house Lésage where the famous embroideries come from), a shoe maker, a hat maker Maison Michel and more real handwork houses to ensure their continued existence. Very generously, these companies are allowed to also work with other fashion brands (such as Dior and Saint Laurent), though once a year, Chanel hosts a show to showcase their beautiful craftwork. I happened to be one of the 200 fortunates who was allowed to experience such a métier d’art show.
Each year, the theme is a city with which Coco Chanel had a special bond. After Bombay and Edinburgh, it’s now Dallas’s turn. It was the first city to sell her clothing at Neiman Marcus.
And Karl wouldn’t be Karl if he didn’t see to an extra little something in the shape of a film in which Geraldine Chaplin plays Coco.
