tiger of sweden

Asked if I wanted to attend Stockholm Fashion Week: “Ja, gärna!”. For years I’ve been a particular fan of Scandinavian fashion: the minimalist style, the beautiful fit and everything  just with an edge.

I had the pleasure of accompanying the Benelux team of the fashion brand Tiger of Sweden. In the Netherlands this brand is (still) not very well-known but the Swedish fashion house has been around for over a 100 years and has had great success – you can see it everywhere on the streets. They take care of the final show of Stockholm Mercedes Benz Fashion week; you can’t do better than that!
On arrival in Stockholm, we are taken straight to one of the most beautiful ships in the harbour to make a trip across the water. The weather is high summer; the atmosphere on board is great and the view breathtakingly beautiful. The captain tells us that the houses on the fjords cost a small fortune, so that still needs to be saved up for a little longer….
With a nice flush on my face from the sun and champagne, I step off the ship at the end of the afternoon to see one of the brand stores of Tiger of Sweden. Also, there I find chilled champagne. The Vikings know how to drink! My Dutch body isn’t used to this pace so I sensibly move on to water.
The new winter collection is beautiful: I’d love to have each item in my wardrobe! The luxurious material varies from wool to leather; the colour palette is a mix of Bordeaux (my favourite!), greys and a lot of black.

Simple fit and tone-on-tone shades are combined with TARTAN AND BIKER DETAILS -a nod to the punk of yesteryear

The time is approaching for us to go the catwalk show: this evening the SS14 collection will be shown. Despite the fact that I don’t know any Swedish editors, bloggers or celebrities, I see if there are any there. In front of us sits a girl that seemingly wants to stand out, she has a huge peacock on her head. The woman on the seat next to me all of a sudden can’t see anything! “Shall we give her a little ‘accidental’ push?” The show begins and the chattering fashion folk hush abruptly. The collection is aptly called Poetic Punk; it’s a classic line with a strongly rebellious streak. Simple fit and tone-on-tone shades are combined with tartan and biker details -a nod to the punk of yesteryear. I immediately fall in love with a mint green skirt and matching jacket. I’m quite the ‘matching’ type.
Afterwards, we go along to celebrate the success of the show with the Tiger team at café –restaurant Richie, where you must go if you’re here. All of Stockholm’s fashion, art and clubbing people come here. Now there’s no escape: the champagne once again is chilling on the table and all I can do is give in.
After also having some delicious Swedish meatballs and other tasty treats to eat, I head nice and merrily with the Tiger Benelux team towards our hotel. What a great day!
At the end of September, Tiger of Sweden will open just two stores here: in Breda and Amsterdam. Go along and get addicted. To be continued…..
