Paris is my favourite city. For weeks I can look forward to an omelet at Café de Flore, or a looksie (really just looking) at Colette or a walk along the Seine. If you’re ever fortunate enough to be in Paris on your birthday then visit the following addresses for a dinner party.
La Coupole is a big brasserie where, if you’re lucky, you might have to serenade along three times on someone else’s birthday. The lights might just go off whilst you’re in the middle of your steak tartare. There the brigade enters, singing, crossing the room carrying a cake with fireworks on top. In a straight line to the birthday boy, or — and I speak from experience — birthday girl. It may sound like an interruption of your dinner, but it’s spectacular. But be sure to plan ahead if you want to book ‘happy birthday waiters.’
The Eiffel tour. Impressive every time, whether in the distance or up close. It may sound a bit touristic, having dinner on the Eiffel tour. But really. It’s amazing. The restaurant, Jules Verne, is located on the second floor. The view is breathtaking and the service is, like only the French can, perfect. But especially the view. The view is the most impressive. Whoever’s by your side, whatever you’re eating. Order a glass of champagne, nibble (it’s allowed) one of the delicious French sandwiches and order the coquilles. Or lobster. But for a dinner like this you’ll have to save up.
Grazie is an über hip pizzeria with the best pizzas in town. Perfect crust. Not too thin, nor too thick, and you can choose super healthy toppings. So you won’t have to feel guilty. Oh well, who cares anyway, it’s your birthday.
You’ve got to book in advance because all of happening Paris will eat at this restaurant. This pizzeria is located in the concept store Merci. One of my favourite shops in Paris. After diner, or right before, you can also drink a gin tonic or another good cocktail at their popular bar.
