DEAR REFLECTION
It was already buzzing for months and it was finally confirmed last weekend: Lady Gaga is the face for Versace’s s/s 2014 campaign. The fashion house announced this on Instagram, showing us the very first image of the campaign in which Gaga’s dubbed the ultimate Versace woman. The campaign image shows us Gaga in a purple, extremely tight-fitting dress laying sultrily on a sofa. The resemblance between Gaga and Miss Versace herself is undeniably present.
“Lady Gaga COMPLETELY captures the Versace essence: creative, experimental, FEARLESS” the brand stated.
Call me sour, but I think it’s narcissism at its apex to transform one of the greatest superstars of our time — famous for her unique style, no less — into a copy of yourself. Right? “Lady Gaga completely captures the Versace essence: creative, experimental, fearless” the brand stated. I find that rather difficult. Saying someone’s so incredibly creative and experimental, but then portraying her as a completely thought through concept executed rather poorly. Didn’t we already see Donatella in a very tight bodycon dress with long platinum blonde hair? Though, perhaps, in the world of the higher arts and creativity, this is creative and against the grain. Long story short, Gaga likes Versace, Versace likes Gaga, but Versace probably loves itself the most.
