SLA is trendy
You know the drill: salad, tomatoes, avocado, mozzarella cheese and the occasional pine nuts. That’s how you would make a salad at home. Adding grilled vegetables, quinoa or lentils is considered too much work or you make up an excuse like ‘I just do not have enough inspiration after a long hard day at work’. Salad bar SLA hasn’t opened its door that long and people are already standing in line to get their hands on their delicious salads. The salad bar is attracting more women, though. Maybe men had enough of all that healthy eating and a salad sounds rather dull. Nonetheless at SLA, located on the Ceintuurbaan, you have a wide selection of potatoes, meat and vegetables. Well, potatoes can be replaced with whole grains, whole wheat couscous or lima beans.
No need to resist those unhealthy cravings because SLA only serves salads, soups, freshly squeezed juices and super healthy snacks. Everything is made out of bio products. Soon enough, SLA will build a small greenhouse in their backyard to grow their own vegetables and herbs. Behind the bar are four lovely girls who will serve whatever you want. You can assemble your own salad or choose from their ‘five favourites’. I chose falafel balls, whole wheat couscous, toasted cauliflower, pumpkin, carrot and pumpkin seeds (€7, 00). By adding henna seeds or linseeds as a topping, it will make your salad even healthier and more nutritious. For people who have a real sweet tooth, SLA also serves raw chocolate cake made out of chia seeds and coconut (€5,00).
Cutlery is provided on a separate table where you can also help yourself with mint infused water. Yes guys, it does sound slightly tedious, but beer or wine is also available!
SLA is located in a lightly painted room with simple wooden tables and folding chairs. The walls are covered with cute baskets, fresh herbs and other plants. I became a huge fan after eating my super healthy Eastern salad. There is also take-away which will come in handy when I pass the salad bar on my way home.
