Tights
Once I was asked on RTL Boulevard what I really couldn’t stand and I answered: tights. Never have I made so many women scared/angry/sad, for which I apologize. I meant that the 15 denier tights were boring. And I still think they are. When you choose tights, make a statement and choose a thicker pair (they’re also less fragile) or a pair with a sexy pattern.
For quite a while in fashion, tights (unless patterned) were to be scorned: Karin Swerink (the Editor-in-chief of Vogue the Netherlands, so she should know), always presents herself barelegged under her black dresses. Even if it’s a chilly 10 degrees. Fashion before comfort!
But what did I see before my eyes during Milan and Paris Fashion Week? TIGHTS! Back again!
But thank God, with a twist. So I can still hold my head up high.
At Max Mara, they were thin, admittedly, but in the same colour as the outfit (i.e. orange or white or green) and worn with fashionable socks to the knees. All in the same colour. Frida Giannini sent her Gucci models down the catwalk with sexy fishnets on. So, my Boulevard statement still holds true, both were examples of tights with a twist. Exactly as I’d preached.
Until that is, I took a first glance at King Karl’s Chanel Show. There I saw: Cara Delevigne, Miranda Kerr and Saskia de Brauw…all in mouth-watering looks that were completed with …glossy skin coloured tights. I rest my case. Karl is the boss, so I humbly bow. But it still doesn’t appeal. Go ahead but me, I’ll pass.
