5 healthy/fitness apps for on holiday

We train ourselves into the ground when summer comes around (well, I’m in the gym pretty regularly) and then celebrate our strict regime on holiday. And so you should. That’s exactly what vacations are for. Still, I always pack a skipping rope into my suitcase and some healthy bars for the journey. For me, relaxation means activity. That is me at my best.

And that does not mean working out in the gym every day for an hour. It only takes 15 minutes of your time and can be done at the poolside or on the beach. I treat myself to a cooling dive afterwards.

Here are my favourite fitness apps to help you along. Then on to a guilt-free margarita and penne arrabiata.

7 min Workout

12 exercises (with descriptive pictures) that you do for 30 seconds each. You do them rapidly in succession to raise your heart rate. You can create a plan for yourself, and all activity and progress is stored. Motivating. And hello, a full body workout in 7 minutes!

Yoga Studio

Maybe not the cheapest app (€ 3,59), but will give you a whole lot of pleasure. You can choose from 65 different yoga and meditation lessons on video. Everything is explained perfectly and is easy to follow. You can select different levels and lessons from 15, 30 or 60 minutes. Wonderful for a morning on the beach.

Runkeeper

This is the best app to jog with. It’s very simple, you hit start and it keeps tally of how far you go, for how long, how fast and even where you run. You get to see your exact route on a map afterwards. You can even take a photo and save all in your history. Great if you’re jogging somewhere on a beach like Koh Pi Pi or along the coast of Barcelona. It is also possible to set goals for yourself and create a jogging plan. You get a reminder when it’s time to run again.

30 Day Ab Challenge

This one is very handy. You click on the day of the week and you get told exactly what to do. Every day is different, and gets progressively harder. When you’re done, you click on the tick. You will start seeing the start of a six-pack after 30 days, and it doesn’t take up too much of your time either.

Step counter with Pedometer powered by runtastic

You’ll be amazed by how many kilometers you walk during a city trip. This app counts exactly how many steps you take. If you’re having a lazy vacation but still want to walk a certain amount of kilometers, you can set it up. A cute chime lets you know that you’ve achieved your target.
