99 Fashion Intern Problems (but ELLE ain’t one)

The day before I started my internship at ELLE’s editorial department, I felt absolutely petrified. This was partly due because I couldn’t wait to start, but also because I was just plain scared. We all know The Devil Wears Prada stories and the ‘fashion world’ tends to be presented as cold, angry, and bitchy. My fears turned out to be based on nothing because everyone was so nice and I really had the time of my life. But it doesn’t always go like this. I’ve got the idea that it isn’t so bad in the Netherlands, but abroad interns are tortured, abused, and clubbed to death. They’ve got to pick up and deliver 800 packages, transport 7400 clothing items for 12 different stylists all over town, and are also unofficially the editor-in-chief’s PA. Today I happened on this Tumblr page “Fashion Intern Problems” on which all these kinds of situations are funnily portrayed via GIFs, and I had to laugh out loud several times. With sound, yes. Ideal for everyone who’s done an intern like this and also ideal for anyone considering working in fashion. Don’t! Just kidding, of course, but for those who’d like to go abroad: you better watch out. And about that Tumblr page, definitely don’t watch it at your internship because you won’t be able to stop clicking ‘next page’. Great if you want to get fired though.
