A little something extra to get through the winter

3 X POWER SUPPLEMENTs

The cross over from autumn to winter is not always easy and it takes a while till I’ve given myself over fully. I try to wear my leather jacket for as long as possible when cycling and then I complain bitterly that I should have put something warmer on. And then I do the same thing the next day. Lies and I sit at the office wrapped in super thick scarfs, but then go outside in thin pantyhose. Stupid I know, but we do it.

And then the winter dip comes a-knocking. You need to plan in loads of really fun things to do in December and January as medicine, but you can also change some nutritional things in the winter to help you feel good. Aside from healthy eating (especially warm during the cold days), you can also take supplements. You’ll feel the cold less, have more energy and your mood will improve.

Multi vitamins

I’ve always been pro multi-vitamins. They are good all year round, but especially in the winter. Even if you eat healthily already, it’s still a good idea to help your body top up on deficiencies and fill up on reserves, so if you do eat badly once in a while, you’re still getting the correct vitamins and minerals. One multi-vitamin is not the same as the next, so read the packaging to find out what is inside. It is really important that it says for optimal absorption like this one.

Omega-3

Fish oil contains fatty acids that your body needs on a daily basis. Omega-3 is also found in linseed, walnuts and green leafy veg, but I also take a fish oil capsule everyday to keep the optimal dose. Check on the pot (like this one) if it contains EPA and DHA, because these work best for your brain, heart and blood vessels.

Omega is a healthy fat and it keeps the blood sugar levels even (so you don’t have so many sweet tooth moments and you’ll stay full longer) Fish oil also helps fat burning in the muscles.

Vitamine D3

I learned about this one from coach Tessa. She does not believe in winter dips, it’s just a vitamin-D3 deficiency. You get it from the sun in summer, but not at the moment. This vitamin helps break down fat, is important for strong bones and teeth and a good mood in the morning.
