What’s the buzz about?

A new bee in town

It happened again. I was in NoHo, New York for a few days when it happened for the first time, then later on Park Avenue and again in Tribecca. Me on my bike, she walking behind a Bugaboo Bee. I felt pride for my Dutch roots, much more than when Afrojack, our tolerant drug laws or Van Persie’s goal are mentioned.

Urban daddy

The story is well known. Max Barenbrug found it remarkable that baby prams were only available in pink and lots of fuss. Something that as urban daddy, you wouldn’t want to be seen pushing. Aside from the external, they were also a nightmare to drag up three flight of stairs, because that’s where urban daddies live.

From Gwyneth to Miranda Kerr

Max became real royalty to me, when I saw Samantha pushing baby Brady around in a Bugaboo on Sex and the City. Followed by Victoria Beckham, Gwen Stefani, Miranda Kerr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Marion Cotillard and I can go on for another 25 minutes. The Bugaboo Bee is even in the Times Top 100 as best design. Okay.

Every child with a new pram

I’m already on my third Bugaboo thanks to my rich child-career. I started with a Chameleon that was available in beige and black, and later in a denim-look. I was then treated to a Donkey, which lets you transport two children at a time (I managed three, one in the basket on the side) and now I have a Bee for occasional use. Small, light and nimble.

Another one?

And then the buzz. A new Bee was a-coming. I got to admire it a few months ago. The difference? Even more nimble, easier to change the view direction (sometimes looking at the world, sometimes looking at mom), a cover that comes all the way down to give your child total privacy and immediately rid them of being touched by irritating public hands, and a little crib that you can use as travel crib.

It’s a good thing I already have three daughters, because it’s almost tempting to have another…
