The coolest catwalk music

“Why go in person to all the shows at Fashion Week when you can just watch them on the Internet?” A question that got thrown at me by an over-excitable publisher while I was still editor-in-chief at Marie Claire. Well dude, do you have a while? So that I can meet with the most important advertisers, because you get to see the coolest people in the world wandering around before the shows start. Talk about inspiration. And because when you get to see the clothing up close and personal, it leaves an irreplaceable impression. Due to the complete show. I kept silent about how fashion is art, because publishers don’t get that. So don’t even go there.

The most important accessory of a show is often the the most neglected. The music. It creates a blended image of everything that the designer has in his head. There are special DJ’s that compile playlists for designers to show off their creations in the most memorable way.

This was the exact situation with the mens shows. Valentino chose for classic presented by Serge Gainsbourg. At Comme des Garçons, Triumphant Procession by Tuxedomoon was played for that heavy, intense feeling. At Carven, humour was obviously the important emotion as everyone listened and smiled to Easy Easy by King Krule.

I didn’t attend the mens shows. No, not because of the whining publisher (cause hey, I’m a free person now) but because I am intensely busy critiquing models for Holland’s Next Top Model. I’m totally up to date though, through this groovy Spotify link. And you can be too. Check out the photos on style.com, listen to the tunes. Bet you boss will be happy!
