starting the weekend with an aperol

We’re going to do things slightly differently this week. We won’t describe a real cocktail that we drank at some shakerboy’s bar, but the perfect drink to start the weekend with. Namely, Aperol Spritz. And tonight we’ll do that at Stadscafé van Mechelen on the Sloterkade. Great because it’s around the corner from amayzine HQ. Now I like fancy restaurants, the kind of place you should really be wearing high heels at, but pubs can also lift my spirits every now and again. Just on my new Nikes. Van Mechelen is a pub, perfect for your date, though I’d like to order an Aperol. They’ve also got a big menu with small bites. Chicken wings, fish croquettes, or Grandmum Bobs’ croquettes. Nothing wrong with that.

Seating outside if it’s still great weather tonight, otherwise a spacious and cosy space inside. Big bar, open kitchen, wooden tables and chairs, candlelight, and very friendly staff. The crowd is very mixed, young, no hip nonsense. Exactly what I feel like now. I’m getting on my bike, see you there?
