SIR HENDRIK’S

Hotel Andaz on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam has only been open for about a year and a half. Before Andaz, I’d go there to return my borrowed books, some unread, some way overdue since it used to be a public library. These days, you can crash on one of their easy chairs or couches, and order a cocktail. Or why not make reservations at their restaurant and book a nice room afterwards? It’s an incredibly comfy hotel filled with very entertaining art.

In order to prepare this cocktail at home, you need quite a lot of complicated ingredients, but you can all buy them at the liquor store around the corner. And if you think it’s a bit too much then go to Andaz and a very charming barman is more than willing to make you one.

What do you need and how to prepare it:

  •  45ml Hendrick’s
  • 15ml Falernum
  • 10ml Segerian
  • 15ml Citrus juice
  • 1 dash Tabasco
  • 1 Egg white
  • Cucumber Muddle

Fill a tall cocktail glass (you know, the type of glass Carrie likes to drink her Cosmopolitans from) with ice cubes to cool it somewhat. Add a few slices of cucumber without skin in a cocktail shakes, and crush it with a muddler (a tool with which to crush vegetables and fruit with), break an egg open and only add the egg white to the cucumber. Throw away the yolk. Afterwards, add the other ingredients and shake.

Empty the glass of the ice cubes and use a sieve to pour the mixture through. Garnish with a slice of lemon or cucumber or whatever. I’m still bummed out like last week because I’m still detoxing. In five days I can party again. Let’s have one together?
