And then the 17 days of the Innerwave Detox were suddenly over. We ate less for five days, drank only juices for seven days, and eased back into things in five days. The days of lessening were okay. Our menu mostly consisted of rice crackers, fruit for breakfast, rice crackers with salad and/or lean toppings for lunch, and we had a plate of quinoa, vegetables and fish for dinner. I was quite nervous for the period of juices. The prospect of suffering hunger for a week made me cranky before we even started, especially since there were a couple of sunny days ahead. But oddly enough, drinking only juices weren’t too bad. I was especially surprised that I hadn’t eaten solid foods for days though was still able to stand on two feet. But like we wrote to you last week, it was very, very, very boring not to be able to eat something. The week in bullet points.
– Last week when we wrote to you we had just had our last day of juices. I don’t know why, but I was longing so much for a rice cracker with avocado, smoked salmon, and a bit of salt and pepper. When I ate that Sunday afternoon, I was beside myself with joy.
– We noticed quickly that it was difficult to slowly eat things again after having had juices for such a long time. You’re so done with the juices that you prefer to skip the easing back in phase. But your stomach can’t handle that so it’s important to take things slowly.
– We were invited to a summer barbecue last Sunday at top restaurant Izakaya. It was doomed to fail, of course, but we proved ourself tremendously by refusing all the delicious things but for the welcoming’s cocktail (okay and a glass of wine for me).
-We also found another favourite spot that has incredibly delicious salads. Very organic and homemade. It’s called Voldaan and is located on the Jan Pieter Heijestraat in Amsterdam. They’ve got a lovely bench in front of the door from which to look at people and enjoy the sun.
– We’ve continued to work out. Our trainer was over the moon because we’re finally seeing some results. Toned bums and upper legs, fewer rolls, in short, it’s all getting fitter.
– Jet notices it works on all kinds of things. Her nails are nice, her hair shiny, her skin nice — it feels healthy. I don’t really notice that.
– You’ve heard us complain about the Innerwave supplements, but some were quite okay. Especially the Psyllium Husk is a favourite because the stuff prevents you from having the munchies, and contains lots of fibres which is good for your stool. The taste’s okay and we ordered a jar of 400 grammes and hope to use it daily.
-I’ve noticed that I can’t handle drinking anymore. Which isn’t strange after 17 days of no alcohol, but still. Wednesday I did some wines with a friend until I got extremely nauseous and ran home. I’d only had about four glasses of wine, and believe me, usually that number is a lot higher. I’m in the Thalys as we speak on a press trip to Paris with Moët et Chandon so I’m a bit nervous.
-Jet did a lot better. She’d treated herself on a very expensive but delicious piece of tuna from Marqt on Thursday.
-Destination Killer Body is almost at its end. We’re quitting on the first of July because it has been three months. We’re also slightly adapting our sports ritual because working out three times a week doesn’t come cheap. We’ll keep you updated, of course. Now let’s hope we’ll make it to the first of July.
