DIET DU MOMENT

It’s a cliché, but also a truth: it’s early January, we’ve just gorged ourselves on all kinds of December treats, and it’s time to move on. Christmas tree out the window and let’s shake things up! And because we like to keep a sharp eye on the latest trends here at Amayzine, we gathered for you the most popular diets of 2014.

The Caveman / Paleo diet

This is by far the most popular diet of the moment in the US. The name already gives it away a bit. The starting point of this diet is that we should eat like we used to. The caveman diet tries to revolve around food that we also ate thousands of years ago. Our bodily processes, according to their philosophy, works almost identically to that of the ‘caveman’. Our body hasn’t evolved along with our diet of cornflakes, grains, and soft drinks. So when you think about it, we’re still kind of ‘cavemen’. A growing number of supporters of the so-called Caveman diet says that going back to the food we ate as hunters will diminish problems like obesity, diabetes type 2, and heart diseases. This statement is supported by some academics as well as fitness gurus, and has quite the celebrity following.

The food hourglass

The food movements in the Netherlands and Belgium are quite obsessed with The Food Hourglass (De Voedselzandloper) by Kris Verburgh. We’re talking about a movement rather than diet if we’re to believe the writer. The aim is to live healthily. Side effect is that most people lose weight when they live like this. The principle? Replace unhealthy foods like soft drinks, fast food, sweets, bread and pasta, etc. with as much possible healthy foods like nuts, oatmeal, legumes, and ginger tea. So you can still eat like you always do, but always choose the healthy variant.

Fasting / 5:2 diet

It blew over from England and becomes increasingly popular in our own country: fasting. This diet is quite simple. Eat whatever you feel like for about five days, the other two you’ve got to live according to a very strict diet of about 500 calories.

More:

Well, you can have whatever you like, really, just as long as you keep to the 5:2 ratio.

Less:

When you’re fasting, you’re not allowed to exceed the 500 calories. Mostly a combination of vegetables and egg whites. You’re also not allowed to have two fasting days in a row.

The blood type diet

The blood type diet exists for over 30 years, but it’s gaining in popularity at the moment. The thought behind it is that not everyone responds the same on different foods, and so that one diet for all doesn’t exist. According to your blood type, the American dr Dadamo comprised several diets. It’s better for people with blood type A to eat vegetarian, people with blood type B are allowed meat, but they aren’t allowed chicken. The theory is that you’d be thin and healthy if you know what’s good for your blood type.

More:

Entirely dependent on your blood type
