Opening Dior store
DIOR EST ARRIVÉE
Whilst the rain’s literally plummeting from the heavens above, a modest queue of people waited at the PC Hooftstraat number 100. Gallant men with large umbrellas stood around to keep everyone as dry as possible, the valet parking worked overtime as I went to park my bike (there’s got to be a difference). Once inside the surprisingly beautiful store, the rain disappeared like frost under the morning sun. Enormous, tall ceilings, white, lots of mirrors, fantastic lighting, and, of course, it was filled with Dior’s latest and newest.
The invitees were a mix of fashion folk (think Hilmar Mulder,Cécile Narinx, and Janine Breukhoven), important people from Paris, famous Dior fans (think Carice van Houten and Jeroen Spitzenberger), and Dior’s most loyal customers, mostly dressed in, indeed, Dior. Also Sophia, a five month year old baby that crawled on her mother’s arm, and was the absolute star of the evening, and dressed from socks to hat in soft pink Dior. We got slightly jealous when we saw a couple of incredibly chic women attack the wall with shoes and cabinets filled with jewellery for it was also possible to shop. We spoke with a woman who had just bought a bag. Especially for this opening she dragged her hubbie to Amsterdam. Shopping at Dior, afterwards cocktails at Momo, and staying the night at the Andaz, she told us. So chic.
There were attractive guys in shirts serving Ruinart Champagne and small bites to the guests, whilst in the background the music sounded that was also played in Paris during the Dior show. This is the very first Dior store in the Netherlands, and the international allure of the store looks very good on Amsterdam. When we went outside it had stopped raining. We hung our goodiebags on our bike’s steering wheels and went home with a head full of wishes and dreams. One day, I’ll buy a bag, shoe, or clothing item at Dior. Really.
