SUMMER IS COMING
Fun things to do this weekend
It’s steamy today. A real sundress day. The lemonade with mint and ice blocks is being made by the bucketload here today at the editors office. A fan wouldn’t be considered a luxury. Has it finally started? Summer? I’m guessing that at five ‘o clock a chilled glass of wine will be served here to celebrate the weekend. Here are some cool tips for what to do with these days of warm weather.
football
Duuh, I know, of course football will dominate this weekend. Right? Tomorrow at 22.00 is kick-off against Costa Rica. Haul out the orange garb and find a good spot with a large screen. Here are some ideas for great places to watch the game. And read this quickly so you know how to behave.
PITCH Festival
The PITCH festival in the Westerpark, Amsterdam is perfect for some techno, minimal, house or a bit of fine R&B. There are drinks and food a plenty. But it is all about the music. Click here for the line up. There are still tickets available but be quick. The football fans won’t need to miss out either. Two big screens are being installed with audio, so you can keep an eye on the game.
the Parade
The Parade has started. A travelling theatre festival. This year the festival is opening in The Hague. Then it moves on to Utrecht, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Besides many, many great performances, music and dance, there are also plenty of different foods to try and drinks to enjoy. Oh yeah, there’s also a carousal and a silent disco. Perfect place for a date perhaps?
‘De Wereld Draait Buiten’ party
On Sunday, the Pitch festival terrain gets transformed into a party called ‘De Wereld Draait Buiten’ (which means The World Plays Outside). Five podiums with well-known local and international acts. There is a large grassy area to chill out on and listen to the tunes. Here is the programme.
Take a blanket with to sit on, much more comfy.
Relaxing in amsterdam city
The roof at Nemo is a huge sun-paradise. There are loungers, benches, cushions to sit on or take your own towel. You get sprayed with water, can play a giant game of chess and enjoy the small bar. Let’s not forget, it has one of the best city views in Amsterdam.
To the beach
Beach bar Timboektoe
Beach bar Timboektoe is a surfers paradise. You can hire a board and hit the waves, but I’m talking about the fact that it is a true valhalla of gorgeous men (think surfer-boys). The menu is full of delicious fare and whenever I go, I order an entire jug of lemonade with mint. You can stay till late and if you’re lucky, there’ll be a DJ or live band playing. Not so easy to get to with the train so a car or bike is handier (depends on where you live of course).
Beach bar Tijn Akersloot
Beach bar Tijn Akersloot in Zandvoort is one of my faves. Huge loungy couches, comfy beach chairs, a Corona and the sea. Do I need to say more?
Beach club Bries Noordwijk
On a beautiful day you can visit here for a massage or take an evening yoga class on the beach. As the afternoon draws to a close you can pop into the town. Quite good shopping. Of course, sometimes you don’t want to do anything at all on a sunny day. Just be, sunbathe with drink in hand. Also very possible at Beach Club Bries
