Grammy Glamour

It must have been such a pleasure to be present at the 56th Grammy Awards ceremony. It was an ENORMOUS show that wrote pop history. The most incredible duos treated the viewer to amazing performances. Mr and Mrs Carter took to the stage, and judging from their breathtaking chemistry – Beyoncé looked thinner than ever before, her husband looked handsome in a tux – they get along pretty well at home.

And the silent men of Daft Punk performed Get Lucky live with a.o. Stevie Wonder. Big winners Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performed with Madonna and Queen Latifah, and sang Same Love as wedding singers whilst 34 gay couples said ‘I do’ to each other. Robin Thicke performed with Chicago, Sara Bareilles with Carol King, and the remaining members of The Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, performed together whilst Yoko Ono danced in the audience.

And not to mention the amazing Katy Perry and Metallica, Pink’s Cirque du Soleil act, or a head banging Taylor Swift from behind the piano. It seemed like it was never coming to an end.

All of this was of course preceded by a lovely fashion parade on the red carpet. And it’s always more interesting at the Grammy’s than at the Globes or the Oscars because people’s outfits are usually way more edgy. Madonna stole the show with her adoptive son David Banda in matching Ralph Lauren costumes, and lots of rock ’n roll royalties, such as Stevie Nicks, Ozzy Osbourne, and Steven Tyler made appearances in ditto outfits

Even though everyone did their own thing at the Grammy’s, there were definitely a couple of trends noticeable on the red carpet:

  • Metallics. Amongst others Taylor Swift (according to us the best dressed), Rita Ora, Ciara, Amber Rose, and Chrissy Teigen appeared in glittering (literally!) evening gowns that had a silvery or gold metal shimmer.
  • No knickers dresses. The no knickers dresses (dresses with large transparent patches on places that would normally show underwear) made a slow, but steady start in Hollywood.
  •  First people could only talk about the disgrace that pioneers Gwyneth Paltrow and Selita Banks caused, but this award season we increasingly saw A-listers with killer bods that went for it. Sunday, Beyoncé and Paris Hilton chose for designs that required them to go completely commando on the red carpet.
  • Open heart dress. The open heart dress, or navel cleavage, is a trend that comes and goes. There are some, however, that really know how to work this style.
