DIY Gucci-hair

The repeat of HNTM finale from Monday is being aired this evening, and since I wore a Gucci dress thought it would be fun to have Gucci hair too. I’m totally in love with the overall look of their fall/winter collection from snake print boots to goggles and everything in-between. It just so happens that I’m in the extremely fortunate position of having Rachel Geerman on speed dial.

She is one of the hairstylists on Luigi Murenu’s team, has a salon called The Building on the Stadionweg in Amsterdam (close to our HQ) and just happens to have done the hair for this show, so all round perfect. Are you in the mood for a lovely nonchalant, sexy Gucci-hairstyle but don’t have a Rachel in the neighbourhood? Try this out.

1. Buy a hair piece. Fairly essential. I’m a huge fan of the Balmain hairpieces, which are available at the more upmarket salons. A bit of a layout (think around €60) but you can use it for a long time. Buy one that already has those little clips on it. Rachel makes a tiny braid and then sews the hairpiece on, but this is tricky for us amateurs.

2. Wash your hair with dry shampoo. This way it’ll be clean but not limp. I’m a fan of the silver shine from O&M.

3. Blow-dry your hair till towel dry, then apply a good amount of mousse for firmness.

4. Add one or two hairpieces to the crown area but so that your own hair falls naturally over it.

5. Use a curling iron to add waves. Blow-wave your fringe outwards and part in the middle so you have a section on each side that curls outwards.

6. Take two sections and clip them to the back with small hair clips. This gives sturdiness and more shape to the hair.
