HIGH ON GUCCI
One of the more important reasons for my visit to Milan was the Gucci show. Obviously. Tom Ford gave the house its allure back, but Frida Gianini only makes items I’d like to wear. From the label with the iconic horse to the fabrics and her silhouette, it’s just so incredibly me. Besides, Frida and I share a love for the same kind of pasta (Barilla’s number 5), and I’ve fallen in love with the Gianicolo hill in Rome on which she lives. When I heard from press lady Ilaria yesterday that Frida always takes the employee lift and not the chic one for the guests, I thought she was even more charming. In Milan the hospitality splashes off the shows. At Marni (Consuelo Marni always shows on Sunday morning), right before the show, a walking breakfast was served, and the champagne sparkled in the glasses at Gucci. The press arrived, making a smashing entrance was hard to do. It rained too hard.
“Glamour at it’s purest.” According to Frida
But enough about the entourage. The show, that’s what it’s all about. Rachel Geerman under the supervision of Luigi Murenu took care of the hair, with many colleagues of course. I want that hair. Period. Half long, a long strand, and everything worked back nonchalantly with hairspray. The makeup was sexy, suggestive, smokey eye, pale lips. Leave it to the great Pat McGrath to create a solid look.
Holland’s finest Bette Franke is très Gucci and walked the runway.
This fall/winter collection, Frida Gianini wanted to express the Gucci essence. She longed for precision, a clear silhouette with valuable materials, and a new colour palette. “I want to portray a sophisticated woman who dresses rather for herself than others.” Frida said.
The collection evoked a terribly sexy sixties air with the hair, eye makeup, and oversized coats in soft pastels. Not to mention the glasses (which I’ve got to have), the snakeskin boots, the oversized coats with a wide belt on the back for a nice accent on the waist.
The tightly cut trousers (also in snakeskin print) combined with an A-line dress… Marvellous. The Jackie bag has been made in a gorgeous calf, python, and croc leather. According to Frida, you should wear the bag by putting your arm downwards through the handles and hold it with your hand on the bottom.
“Glamour at it’s purest.” According to Frida. We can only swoon and agree. Amen.
