OH ANNA, NOW WHAT?

The fashion world is dealing with a huge problem. What happened? Well, the hotels in Milan and Paris where the fashion posse likes to resides at, Le Meurice and the Principe di Savoia, are now owned by the sultan of Brunei.

Rich but wrong

That sultan has a lot of money (which you already suspected), and is, putting things mildly, not a big fan of the phenomenons of adultery and homosexuality. Which are the two things fashion folk are very much into. I mean, adultery won’t be publicly announced, but what would our world be without Karl Lagerfeld, Hedi slimane, and Haider Ackermann? I mean, who isn’t gay in fashion land?

Mighty fashion folk resistance

In order to address the issue, Brian Atwood, Francois-Henri Pinault (Selma Hayek’s husband and Gucci’s CEO, Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen) decided to boycott these hotels. Saint Laurent declared on social media that Brunei’s laws don’t fit in civilised society.

“While I am sensitive to the potential impact that this issue may have on the wonderful staff at le Meurice, I cannot in all good conscience stay there, nor can Vogue’s editors.”

Anna doesn’t want to either

Anna Wintour, who likes to visit Le Meurice with her fashion legion, has said: “While I am sensitive to the potential impact that this issue may have on the wonderful staff at le Meurice, I cannot in all good conscience stay there, nor can Vogue’s editors.”

Fashion week’s clubhouse

Le Meurice was the home of pretty much everyone that was important in fashion. Visit it during Fashion Week and you’ll spot Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, Mario Testino, Alber Elbaz, and a lot of top models. The Principe di Savoia is a hotel loved as frequented by fashion editors. Especially the hotel’s bar is the clubhouse of the Milan fashion week.

Couchsurfing,anyone?

It’s a huge problem where the fashion posse have to stay the night during the couture spectacle and prêt-à-porter weeks. The Ritz and Le Crillon are renovating and so closed. I’d like to ask the construction workers to put a move on things to make sure there’s a fresh hangout for Anna and her posse in September. Couch surfing an option?
