Cartier Watch

The Cartier Tank takes its rightful place in the category ‘iconic’ with all appropriate tribute and praise.

The watch that exudes class and style, and thus worn on the arm of Queen Máxima and yours truly, actually has a rather sad history. It was designed by Louis Cartier for the French soldiers during the First World War. A wrist watch, because that’s what it is, did not slide off the wrists of the men very easily. It was extremely important for them to tell the time for some reason or another, which I don’t really understand.

Okay. The men who survived the war were allowed to take the watch home, and that is why it symbolises courage and strength. Et voilà. I refused to wear a watch for years and always used my iPhone to tell the time, until that glorious Saturday when I was enticed in the direction of the PC Hoofd shopping street by my love, and a spanking new Tank draped on my wrist.
