Trousers, skirt, jumper, jacket, two pairs of boots, correct, three boots, and earrings. Voici, Isabel Marant’s presence in my closet. Oh and I forgot to add a black kimono that I bought last weekend at Graanmarkt 13 in Antwerp. There’s one designer in fashion that knows how to please everyone, from Sylvie to Halina, and that’s our Isabel.
It’s cool, classy, fashionable but nothing over-the-top, understated yet distinctive. It has that Parisian left bank feeling, which is so difficult to capture in style. Though Isabel knows how to. The AVRO’s going to broadcast a Close Up tomorrow evening, entirely dedicated to the queen of casual chic. Loïc Prigent (the man that also made the fabulous documentaries about Chanel and Gaultier), followed Isabel in the preparations for her spring summer 2012 show.
It’s cool, classy, fashionable but nothing over-the-top, UNDERSTATED yet distinctive.
In The Day Before – Isabel Marant, we meet a designer who, literally, is doubled because of stress. Back pains prevent her from moving about normally. This fashion show isn’t her first one, but Marant’s label’s explosive success gave her all the more to lose.
This time, everything’s especially tense because the fashion show falls right in between Dior and Lanvin’s, and because there’s a heavy shortage in mannequins.
Another difficult thing is that, quite last minute, Marant doesn’t like the enormous, coarsely knitted jumpers and dresses made for her by a knit artist. Will the designer be able to satisfy the press on the big day with a collection that gives a new twist to her distinctive and loved style?
I can tell you that everything turned out for the best in Isabel’s real life. It concerned the show with the fringe boots which we all still love to wear. I’m looking forward to an hourlong sit with Isabel before going to bed. If that doesn’t give me golden dreams…
Curious?
