Our last day
After breakfast we checked out. With pain in our hearts. What a wonderful hotel and how spoiled we were, and from now on we never want to sleep in any other hotel.
We dragged our extremely heavy suitcases down to reception. Somehow my case always seems to end up three times heavier than when I arrive, and I was pretty good on the shopping front, in my eyes anyway. We discovered that it was not much dearer to take a cab directly to the airport than going with the train and public transport, so as you can imagine, the choice was made quickly. We reserved a black-cab for the end of the day with the lovely porter, who after a few high-fives and hugs gave us permission to go shopping. Great.
A Date
We first had a date with Anouk Bos. Owner of Creators of Desire. She has been our Look of the Day many times, and we’ve kept in contact since then. “Blonde curls, scandi-chic with a bohemian twist”. That’s how she described her personal style. Everything that she was wearing, and I mean everything, was super cool. We had reserved a table at the Shoreditch House rooftop. It’s a members only club, but we’re on the list luckily. We ordered salads with quinoa, drank green tea, sparkling water and wine, and enjoyed the sun and views over London.
No pictures please
Taking photos in the hotel is prohibited. It’s all about the privacy of the guests. And yes, when Lindsay Lohan walked past, I got the message. Did you know that she’s had her lips injected at least ten times? The way she looked, wow.
I managed to take a sneaky pic, but it didn’t take long till I got a little smack on my hand. The waiter was too late though, because I’d already taken a few.
One more then
After lunch we had a chill at the pool and then Anouk took us with her to Albion. A lovely tea-room around the corner. London is full of lovely little places. While Liesbeth gets her kicks in Shoe Heaven, I enjoy going to cool little restaurants, hotels or lunch-rooms. Albion has a great bio-store with tea, coffee, veggies, fruit and healthy snacks, which I nosed around in. We had one more cup of green tea and chatted as if we’d known each other for years.
It’s time!
Because we were having such a fabulous time, it got way too late for real shopping. We stopped by Sweaty Betty, a cool sports shop. Liesbeth was inside for like a second and then left, I saw loads of lovely things but controlled myself.
On arrival at OUR hotel, we saw the taxi waiting outside with all our luggage already loaded. The sweetest porter ever, and now our best friend, gave us another big hug and said “God bless you girls and please come back!”. And we will.
A missed opportunity
We did a last round of shopping at the airport. I quickly tried out a Valentino-bag and even dreamed about it last night, which is bad news. For my bank account that is. Lies did a little dance of joy when she saw the L. K. Bennett store and immediately asked if they had her size in a black shoe, but after waiting for ten minutes we gave up.
Back to work
And now I’m back behind my little desk in a wonderful new office. We’re quietly planning our trip to Paris next week. I never said I had a boring job did I?
