I’m so much looking forward to Easter. We celebrate it elaborately. A brunch table filled with, trumpets please, candles burning, gran’s cutting grapefruit parts, mum’s creating a lamb from butter, ties a red bow around its neck. Lovely, I simply can’t wait.
Every year it’s a surprise what we’re eating. My mother’s cooking equals a chef’s so I never worry. Last year we ate asparagus with salmon and egg. Mum, if you’re reading this: that sounds perfect for this Easter.
Every year we also take an Easter hike. I used to try everything to not do them. Walking through a forest for over two hours with mountain climb shoes or boots, no thank you. Now, jeez I’m getting old, I don’t mind it so much. Just some calm, having to do nothing. Though don’t worry, I’m fine. Lots of girlfriends are also heading to their parents. Back to basic. I’ve got to admit that I miss the rumble of the city after two days and can’t wait to take the train back to Amsterdam.
But first I’ve got to eat an egg outside in between the cows. I’m wearing my favourite dress with blue white stripes from COS, and I’m lying in the sun with my legs bare. A person doesn’t need much.
Tips for a happy second day of Easter
- Okay, so it’s really great weather so go outside. Take a big basket or bag, make some sandwiches, cut some fruit, make some sparkling water and ginger syrup and take along a big cloth to sit on. Yes, you’re on to me, we’re having a picnic.
- I think painting eggs is lame, but looking for them is such fun. I mean it, it’s a party no matter how old you are. Young and old, everyone’s doing it so fanatically. So even if there aren’t any children around, do it. Just wait and see, everyone’s suddenly a child again.
- What I said earlier: take a stroll or a long run. Easy way of burning that easter brunch again. You’re outside and the sun’s shining. And you bet you’ll get a compliment at work on Tuesday.
- Buy a couple of magazines. Linda and Grazia, for instance. Prepare some tea, take a few chocolate eggs. Sit in your favourite chair in the garden (if you’ve got one of those) and relax. You could also do this with a good book of course :)
- Perhaps you’ve still got a couple of boiled eggs left from yesterday. Prepare an egg salad, this recipe’s divine. Or check the recipe I gave you yesterday for great filled eggs.
Right, you’ll definitely survive the second day of Easter now. And otherwise just give me a ring. We’ll hit town.
