It seems to be a growing pastime for many celebrities, working on projects that are far removed from their core business. Is it out of boredom? Or purely a nose for business? Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera all launched their own fragrance. Dr. Dré stayed a little closer to home and put his name to headphones. Gwyneth Paltrow wrote a cookbook and the Kardashian sisters produced a clothing line. I’ve been set on creating my own perfume for years now, so I probably wouldn’t be coerced into something else very easily, but I must say those Dr. Dré Beats sound pretty good. I’ve tried one of Gwyneth’s (yummy) recipes. I’ll be politely ignoring the Kardashian clothing line if you don’t mind.
But now this: Giorgio Armani, Karl Lagerfeld and Roberto Cavalli have opened their own hotel or restaurant. See, now you’ve got my attention. This I find interesting. A designer, used to dressing people, turns to dressing rooms and finally hotels, I get that. Leave me to spend all my money on staying in beautiful places around the world. I can enjoy staying in a little hut on a tropical beach or on a heath somewhere. But I sleep best in a gigantic, comfortable bed enveloped by pillows and a soft duvet.
Shopping and sleeping with Giorgio
Drying yourself with an Armani towel is done in Dubai, and now also in Milan, the city where Giorgio was born. He admits that this is a declaration of love to his favourite city. And yes, Milan is THE city of fashion, so it doesn’t surprise me at all that you need to book a room far in advance. There is an enormous Armani flagship store on the ground floor of the hotel and there are 95 rooms and suites above, and of course a gym area and spa. Everything is über design, in predominantly greys and whites. Very Fresh.
The restaurant on the seventh floor looks out onto the Duomo.
Raise a glass with Donatella
In Dubai, yes, where else would the Palazzo Versace be?. Excess adornment, soft colours, ornaments, typical Versace style. Donatella sleeps their regularly, for whatever reason she may have. I’m curious to see what she actually looks like. Especially in a bikini.
You pay a small fortune to stay at the palace, but hello, you get a free bottle of perfume in your room.
Karl and Choupette have big plans
He has designed interiors for luxury suites before, namely the ultra chic Hotel de Crillon in Paris. Now Karl is busy with his own hotel in Macau -in South East Asia just under China. We’ll have to be patient though, because it’s only due to open in 2017, but okay, it will give us time to save a bit. Here is how I hope it will look.
Dining with Cavalli
Roberto Cavalli does not have a hotel, but he does have an open air restaurant on Ibiza. Hysterical! Animal print everywhere, just as expected. Big chance of bumping into a star or two, because they love dining with Roberto. There is dancing after dinner. I imagine that you’d have to at least order a bottle of Dom Perignon, or a bottle of Cavalli’s own Vodka (yes he has one), otherwise you just won’t fit in.
