The rumours had already been buzzing for months in show business, but many thought it was poppycock though now it turns out to be true; Lena Dunham on the cover of US Vogue.

The writer and lead of the hit series Girls will grace the cover of the February edition of the most prestigious fashion magazine in the world, or so sources confirmed to the Daily Mail. Representatives at Vogue refuse to comment. We’ll only know for sure after 22 January when the new number will hit our doormats, but it’s safe to assume that Anna Wintour is a staunch supporter of Girls.

The infamous editor-in-chief attended the season premiere with her daughter Bee in New York on Monday evening. Anna posed with Lena on the red carpet and gave Alison Williams (Marni) a big hug when she arrived. Definite proof that the HBO series has the approval of the ‘devil wears Prada’.

Nevertheless, putting Lena Dunham (27) on the cover would be quite remarkable since she doesn’t have the best haircut of the century, is covered in tattoos and  wears at least a size 40. Her unpolished, far from perfect looks may work in her advantage in her tv series, but it’s of course not the standard image we usually see on the cover of the ultimate style and fashion bible. Only a handful of ‘full’ ladies ever graced the cover of which Adele is the most recent.

Around October the first rumours about Lena and Vogue popped up when Anna Wintour reportedly organised a dinner in order to persuade her to participate in the cover shoot. Lena Dunham would appeal to a young audience. The other clue is that all the other ‘girls’ have been on numerous magazine covers, except for Lena. Perhaps because she’s promised herself exclusively to mme. Wintour?
