– Meet the model –

MALAIKA FIRTH

One of the many black girls that coloured the runways is Malaika Firth. She already wrote humble model history by being the first black model for Prada’s new campaign after a period of 19 white years. Her predecessor was Naomi Campbell, but that campaign is already quite dusty as it dates from 1994, Malaika’s birth year. Her model scout was her own mother who saw a TV programme about a modelling agency and thought: my girl should be up there. The contract was practically taken out immediately when Malaika set foot in the agency. Her career began with a runway debut during New York Fashion Week, and it really took off when she shined in the Prada campaign alongside Christy TurlingtonCatherine McNeil, Cameron Russell, Freja Beha ErichsenFei Fei Sun, and Rachel Williams. All of who got photographed by Steven Meisel, not to forget.

Last November, Malaika became model royalty when she got booked for the Victoria’s Secret show. She’s walked in over forty shows these fashion weeks, and she stars in the Valentino, Burberry, and Prada campaigns.

Which leaves us with the following conclusion: Malaika rocks and rules.
