ANNUAL NANNIC SPECTACLE

All hairpieces unite

Betty de Groot, a colourful business woman from Laren and director at Nannic Cosmetics, organised a lunch yesterday afternoon. And asked whether I felt like joining them. In a far away past, Betty and I used to share gyms at least three times per week. I was annoyingly fanatic standing at the front, Betty took her time somewhere near the door, which opened every now and again. Working out was one thing, smoking a cigarette during the workout another.

No one’s like Betty

Betty’s a woman that always manages to surprise you. Her jokes (“girl, the money I’ve spent on my teeth could also have gone to a new Mercedes”), her incredible work ethic, or the time I bumped into her at a restaurant with a young child whose parents were splitting up and who she wanted to cheer up.

That Betty asked me to join the Nannic lunch, which apparently, is the annual highlight of everyone present.

The polonaise at 12:30

I kindly refused the champaign upon arrival. It was Monday noon, dammit. I think I was the only one. They didn’t all break out into a polonaise, but at 12:30 all the hands were up in the air. Mary Borsato on left, Patty Zomer on right. Great because Patty and I are both outcasts of this company. When the waiter asked whether we wanted something alcoholic, the answer was: “fill it up.” There was only one method to experience this lunch, which meant to submerge ourselves entirely. What do you do when Corry Konings starts to sing her song? You sing along. And sometimes take a sip or break out laughing. But fun, warm, and sincere it most definitely was.

Nannic woman of the year

“Someone who’s beautiful on the inside as well as out. The heart and head at the right place, is there for others, helps the foundation Pink Ribbon, and does all kinds of great activities for the lottery.” Betty handed out the award to Quinty Trustfull, who was sincerely taken aback and started crying. Also because of her mother who had dies a couple of years ago, and because of her father who she lives next to, and her husband and children who come first after which is room for her career.

And again hands in the air

There was a singer named Wesley. I’d never heard of him but I got a cd. Afterwards, I took the liberty, the fashion girl that I am, to photograph every fashionable guest and asked them about their look. For instructive and inspirational purposes, of course.

Wise words from Angela Groothuizen

“Don’t get too thin,” was Angela Groothuizen’s beauty recipe. “You need to choose between your face or arse after forty, and I chose to have a big bum.” She then focused on Fabiënne de Vries who’s very far in her pregnancy. She discarded the rather messy situation (Fabiënne’s current boyfriend’s ex wife got pregnant two months before Fabiënne did). “That will fix itself in time. A child needs love and food, which you’ll give it. The rest doesn’t matter. The only thing that’s important is: you’ve got a baby in your belly.” Forcefully supported by Angela’s index finger. Can you hear her say it? Love it.

The presents

I almost forget to mention that every five minutes, nice ladies made rounds through the room to give us gifts. From Hawaiian armlets to blouses, to a fabulous leather-bound book from that amazing furniture store Timothy Oulton on the Amstelveenseweg, where everything took place. When I left at 15:30, Jet’s frame almost collapsed under the weight. And Betty? She surprised me yet again.

THE MOST STYLISH LADIES OF THE PARTY

Wears: Hudson trousers, Zadig&Voltaire shirt, Valentino bag, Hermès shawl, a fabulous hat without a label, and Sam Edelman shoes. Say Leontine, say funky jewellery. Here they come: Bracelet with 3 small golden dolls that represent her children is from www.caramel.cc. The black rods in her ears are from Johnny Ramli, just like the ring shaped like a coin. The letters in her ears are from www.preciousd.com

Middle finger ring www.maisonvanbelle.com , the pinkie ring with diamonds is from bodes en bodes. The index finger ring with pearls is from Banjari. That an a Hermès bracelet and rosé golden Rolex make it all look funky, classy, and always pretty.

With a lovely blonde look, a divinely fit body, and always her own style. Her catsuit is from Barbara Bui, the jacket’s vintage, and the boots (“Yes, they’re a bit worn, May, there’s always something about me not quite right.”) she bought in Miami. Good story, good outfit.

Wearing a bathing suit underneath your outfit? Why not? Especially such a colourful one from Seafolly. The skirt’s from D&G, Domenico and Stefano’s second label from which they pulled the plug two years ago. The shoes are from Aerosoles because they’re comfortable, comfortable! The earrings are from Lott Gioelli. Original and girly. Approved!

The radiating winner doesn’t need  much to be the belle of the ball. Skin, hair, body. Everything’s exquisite. Her jeans are from Eden Schwarz (which, Quinty says, gives you the nicest bum. Agreed.), boots are from Colette Sol, the shirt’s from her good friend Jos van Raak and is from the label Second Female. The jewellery around her wrist is a mix between Cartier, Tiffany&Co., Kuzzies, and the label ByMoïse, that’s right, her daughter’s jewellery line.

Perhaps you don’t her, but you’ll definitely know her work. She was the Annie Leibowitz from the Netherlands in the eighties and nineties. Her late husband was Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema. No, not the Soldier of Orange. That was his father. This Erik junior was an artist and died four years ago. Her prettiest jewellery pieces are his ring which she always wears. Her retro print dress is from Ruby Stella. She’s owned the boots for years and you doesn’t remember the label. “Shall we say DKNY? I think that’s such a great brand.” Fine, Patricia. I bow before your class an authenticity.
