According to research, people that don’t believe in resolutions suffer from low self-esteem. Poppycock, they think. The truth is that they’re often disappointed with their lack of discipline. Argh, lame, we wouldn’t like to be seen like this, right? So I started the new year motivated and positive (=fantastic self-esteem) and yes, thought of a couple of resolutions. Here they are:

  • Work out more often (what else’s new?)
  • Never go to bed without removing makeup (= caused by alcohol! Drink less?)
  • Buy new pumps less often (unless ab-so-lute-ly irresistible)
  • Invest more energy in charity work (perhaps with a friend in order to have a ball à la Geer & Goor)
  • Free up more time to enjoy more ART and CULTURE

My luv and I anticipated the last aforementioned resolution by buying each other a museum subscription for Christmas. Now I’ve got to admit that we (luv and I) differ greatly when it comes to our taste in culture. I for one think that FASHION is art and culture too, which somewhat justifies my shopping behaviour. Which is also the case for restaurants with a special interior or an original menu. My shop-show-city trips to Milan, Paris, London or New York I combine at least with an upcoming or popular culinary hotspot. Cooking is culture too.

Thankfully, my luv can also really enjoy a tasty bite and ditto wine. Shopping, of course, he only does when it’s absolutely necessary (to each his own, I think). My luv gets really enthusiastic about MUSIC. Nothing wrong, also part of art and culture, I hear you think. And you’re right; there’s nothing wrong with music an sich. But he mostly prefers opera and classical music. I’m sorry, but opera makes me laugh (big people in weird clothes producing unnatural sounds), and I’m always seized by an itch in my throat (boooring) as soon as I enter the concert building. You understand, we’re not an ideal match when it comes to music.

When my luv suggested (cosily in bed) to listen to the traditional Viennese New Year’s concert on the telly on the morning of the first of January, I couldn’t help but fall into a great minor. Dammit, I had to listen to violins, tubas and triangles for over two hours with a spectacular conclusion with that supposedly happy (think André Rieu) Radetzky mars. Just in time I remembered the list of Good Resolutions that wasn’t even 24 hours old, and because I didn’t want to be silly, I somehow agreed voluntarily. I’ve got to be honest, this concert was undeniably part of art and culture.

Though here it comes: what do you think? I enjoyed it immensely against all expectations! This fashionista was culturally seen optimally served because her luv swooned when he heard the various Strausses, and I enjoyed the sudden high fashion twist of the concert in the shape of an accompanying ballet with incredible, very gorgeous, costumes that were designed by the one and only, good old lady Vivienne Westwood. In the concert’s intermission we also got to see the ‘making of’ the costumes. In short, I enjoyed myself. So this year started harmoniously and with a successful resolution at thats.

Now the rest…

Happy New Year
