GOING HOME ROLLING
I jumped on my bike and went to the Rollende Keukens with a bag full of wine and Jillz (yes, Jillz. A kind of apple cider. It’s sounds a bit like a Breezer, but it’s perfect for a sunny day in the park). Rollende Keukens is an annual food festival in Westerpark. Unfortunately, this time was the last time ever. I think the reason for this is that too many people come to this festival, making it impossible to host it safety wise. Too bad.
To be fair, it was incredibly busy. Do you feel like a burger or lobster with chips then you had to wait for at least half an hour. Sounds annoying, but it isn’t really. The ambience was perfect, we were well taken care of booze wise and there was enough sun to go round. The audience was mixed but mostly stylish. I saw so many cute, well-dressed young girls and boys. Lots of festival outfits. Denim shorts, maxi dresses, crop tops, hair bands, backpacks. I didn’t know where to look.
“You could also buy odd stuff like: green burgers (make from seaweed), fried grasshoppers, and mealworm croquettes”
There were more than thirty food stands. Oysters, caviar, pretzels, fresh pasta, grilled chicken, sushi. You could also buy odd stuff like: green burgers (made from seaweed), fried grasshoppers, and mealworm croquettes. Which I kindly passed. I chose for the Ethiopian. A pancake with on it some kind of chickpea, lentils, and wokked kale. It was delicious. I ate it with my hands like you’re supposed to. Afterwards, I couldn’t control myself and prepared my smoothie. On a bike. If I peddled it would mix. Sounds daft but it was kind of funny.
Here and there some pizzas, homemade ravioli, and caramel ice with salted butter. We couldn’t stop eating. We descended on a big rug on the field of grass whilst the sun set. We talked and laughed. And when the sun had completely set we biked home. Such a lovely evening. Did I already tell you that I think it’s too bad this Rollende Keukens was the last one ever?
