RIRI ROCKs THE CFDA AWARDS

Yesterday, Rihanna was crowned with a CFDA award for being her very, very fashionable self. With the title of Fashion Icon 2014, she rose head and shoulders above all other fashion legends. So, what do you wear to such an occasion? Not much, apparently.

FROW-HOPPER

Now don’t underestimate the circus of style surrounding Rihanna. Head honcho Mel Ottenberg, who catapulted her into the higher fashion regions, manages her image. Rihanna has sat her feisty Barbadian bum on pretty much every frow there is. Miu Miu, Balmain (of course, since she’s the face of the brand), CHANEL, Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Lanvin and Stella McCartney, naturally making her appearance in the corresponding outfit where ever she went.

RUNNING OUT OF CLOTHES

Hopping from frow to frow solidified her status as a fashion icon, but it also created a problem. She ran out of clothes. Completely. “We’ve used all the coming autumn/winter looks. There’s isn’t a thing Rihanna hasn’t worn already.” Luckily, her stylist Mel Ottenberg has quite unorthodox styling ideas and dressed Rihanna in his boyfriend’s outfit for her clip We Found Love. “She’s got such an enormous status and exudes so much style that she can totally pull off a dressed-down look.

WHERE’S THE DRESS? THERE’S THE DRESS

Expectations were high for the CFDA awards, and then she decided on this dress from American designer Adam Selman. A see-through piece of fabric covered in 216,000 Swarovski crystals. “Rihanna has been ready for this dress for quite a long time, I wasn’t.” Stylist Mel Ottenberg said. “But Rihanna had to shine at an occasion like this so it was the perfect opportunity.”

EIGHT people, ONE DRESS

A mission indeed, as no less than eight (!) people worked the night before the event, from eight pm to three am, to finish the dress. Rihanna came up with the headband herself to make it even more RiRi.

MEL WAS HAPPY. “IT SEALS THE DEAL.”

When asked if people were shocked about the dress, Mel said: “I’m always near Rihanna so I don’t get that easily shocked anymore. Yes, it’s a bit of a racy dress, but hey, what did you expect? A navy blue DvF wrap dress?”
