In these SM times (with which I’m referring to Social Media, and not E.L. James’s perversities) not a day goes by without someone taking a photo. Once, someone approached you politely and rather hesitantly to ask whether he could take a photo of you if-you-didn’t-terriby-mind, though now people just aim their phones at you and shoot.
That’s why it’s incredibly important to know, in a second, which pose shows you at your best.
Because everything’s a craft in its own, especially good posing, I’ve gathered some tips.

  1. Get inspired. Make old-fashioned mood boards and plaster these with images from celebs who you think look great. They often have a signature pose like Olivia Palermo who places one leg in front of the other, or Liz Hurley who puts one foot diagonally in front and tries to turn in her waist to look as slim as possible.
  2. Look for your good side. Ask a friend to take a photo of both your face’s profiles to see which one does you most justice.
  3. Do the Victoria. Before Victoria Beckham lets someone take her photo, she looks for someone fatter to stand next to (not very difficult in her case) only to snort her lips loose which gives her the prettiest smile. She then shuffles her feet and places one leg in front of the other. She turns her hip in for an extra slimming effect, she blows softly, looks into the room as enchantingly as possible, and Vicky’s done.

Tips

  • Practice in front of the mirror. Don’t feel ashamed. Top models do it too.
  • Don’t be shy. A boring image is a loss anyway, so why not try to look as nicely as possible.
  • Exhale! Great to have a good photo, but a blue face is flattering on no one.
