Style Icon
– Ray-Ban Sunglasses –
Summer has postponed itself yet again. Liesbeth gave us a few tips yesterday, on how to hang out on the couch all day, to kill time while we wait. But I want to bring a little sun into my life now, so decided to name Ray-Ban Sunglasses as the style icon of the week. Why? Well because you can always wear them, be it an unreliable winter sun, or a full on sunny day on a terrace. Unmissable in your bag, that’s my opinion.
The Aviator fashion model became known way back in 1936, designed by Ray-Ban. Many, many years ago. Actually they were sort after even earlier than that. Pilots always wore goggles during flights, like swimming goggles, but they got all misted up from the cold temperature at high altitude and they couldn’t see anything. And if they took them off, their eyes froze, also no fun. So the American airforce put out a request for sunglasses designed for pilots. Ta…da… and there we have it. Aviator shades. In the beginning they were only sold as sports equipment, for around 25 cents, but during World War II they became standard military kit. Later, in the 70’s, when prices were creeping up due to their popularity, they started making them with coloured glass and developed a female version. Took a while, but worth the wait. Unmissable in the wardrobe.
