SUMMUM bonum
Even though I’d normally have to go cold turkey after my luxurious Whit Sunday (I was at a small beach house where my luv served me duralex glasses of champaign and blue plastic containers with strawberries), today was not the case.
On the fashion menu
The first thing that was on the fashion menu on Tuesday was a gathering organised by the clothing brand Summum. I’ve known this wearable label for strong, multitasking, but still life-enjoying women for some time. The Marie Claire Starters Award and Summum have always been a perfect set because women that like to wear this label are generally women with a strong purpose in life. Women that grow. And it doesn’t cost terribly much so you can invest that money into your company.
Please take me to the Waldorf Astoria
Enfin. Summum. In order to keep reinventing themselves, they organised a get together with the tagline ‘rebirthing the glamour.’ And I can inform you they succeeded greatly.
The location was the Waldorf Astoria. So it was a guaranteed success. I was picked up with a black uber car. It was such a delight to say for the first time: “please take me to the Waldorf Astoria.” The chauffeur asked out of curiosity what I was going to attend at the Hotel. I’ll forgive him his indiscretion, he was also confounded by the name and world fame that has descended upon Amsterdam.
Lieke, Jetteke, Rens, Do, and Quinty
It was a downright party in the salon of the Waldorf. Firstly, the amazing collection Jorien Wijker designed together with Simone Dernee, fashion director at Marie Claire. Secondly, the fun crowd. Lieke and Jetteke van Lexmond, singer Do, Vivian Reijs, Quinty Trustfull, the sparkling Rens Kroes (more on who later), Liza Sips, It-girl Sophia Tienstra, and web colleague Lonneke Nooteboom.
Wool will be the shizzle
After Simone and Jorien told us all about what inspired them (Jorien finds it in Italy, Simone during and preceding the shows) and what’s going to be hot this winter (Simone thinks wool will be the shizzle), Remco Verbooij (trainings manager of Skins Cosmetics) told us why we should buy a lot. Honestly, this man is perfect for my humour and incredibly dangerous for my wallet. Everything he advises, I’d like to buy, From Rawa hair perfume to the fragrances Babel and Odin 01 and Sel Marin from Healy. Everything, everything, I want to have it all.
Golden tip
A tip I’d like to share with you is that it’s better to put perfume on the topside of your arms rather than the inside of your wrist. The hairs divide the perfume better and the fragrance will last longer because you won’t pass it onto the table, keyboard, or other things you rest your lower arms on. Logical, but I hadn’t ever thought of it.
During the lunch that Rens Kroes and Jonnie Boer prepared together (so intensely healthy and divine), Ellen ten Damme treated us to a little performance. She skipped from violin to the piano back to the guitar. “Do you want another song or are you done?” Lovely, such a singer with a fun ego. Okay, let us have another singalong. ‘I’m I’m afraid of becoming rich and parking the Hummer. I’m so afraid of becoming rich and wearing couture instead of clothes.’
What to take?
I didn’t care much for the coffee grounds reading, but boy oh boy it was a delightful afternoon. Tonight, I’m going to install myself on the sofa with a well-stocked goodiebag with prosecco, Powerfoods from Rens Kroes, and the great Summum catalogue. Let’s see which beach looks I’m going to treat myself to. Though I’ll be working (shopping = working, remember?) and I’ll hold on to that lazy Whit Sunday feeling a little while longer.
