I HAVE A DREAM

If there’s something I’d really like to do it’s probably to stay the night at the Savoy Hotel in London. A hotel with hallways of marble, countless chandeliers, dark brown oak wood, and janitors and men in three-piece suits aplenty. That overnight stay has to wait though (a single room starts at a lousy 500 pounds a night), but last Sunday we got to see the inside when we went to the Temperley London show. The British brand Alice Temperley might be most famous for their gorgeous, princess-like dresses that every girl immediately dreams to her closet. Real princesses like Kate Middleton also appreciates these dresses. Kate is often spotted in a Temperley dress, and leading up to her wedding people speculated intensely about who would design her wedding dress, and Alice Temperley was often included in the lists of potential designers. Last Sunday was the Fall 2014 show and just upon arriving at the Savoy, a shining black Maybach with shielded windows left. Dozens of expensive cars were parked in front of the hotel with drivers that opened doors for their well-to-do clients, and we didn’t know where to look. Once inside, we walked through the hotel’s hallways to the room where the show was going to take place in, and we saw about the entire net-a-porter collection pass by on all the invitees. And then, showtime.

The collection opened with a tall cobalt blue dress with lots of lace, a coat with print, and a thick shawl. And it was a herald of what was next to follow because even the most delicate dresses were styled (by stylist Katie Shillingford) with big fat shawls or coats. Those contrasts in combination with the rich colours, many prints, and lots of layers made the show surprising and lively, and the long suede boots gave it a super sexy touch. Amongst models we also saw our great friend Herieth Paul. Malcolm Edwards, our personal favourite, was responsible for the hair.

A messy hairdo with fishtail braid subtle across the head is something we’d immediately like to try out ourselves. Afterwards, we spotted a lot of celebs in front of the hotel, a handful of models, and of course a lot of well-to-do women that compiled their wish lists. A big procession of black cars with shielded windows arrived and the fashion crowd slowly dissipated. We headed to Starbucks for some wifi and coffee, and to let everything sink in. The Savoy and a Temperley London dress were within hand reach even if only for a moment.
