Suddenly it’s going to start feeling a little more like Antarctica with brisk winds and chronic runny noses. And when I say ‘suddenly’ I really do mean suddenly. While we’re currently still enjoying a bit of that fall sunshine, the weather here in NY is always a surprise and who knows, next week it can make a 180 and suddenly we’ll be decked out in our winter gear. Going from cold to warm is always a fun surprise, but the other way around is a lot less welcoming. So I plan on enjoying the fall sunshine for as long as I can cause who knows how long it will take before I have to start wearing my mittens again.

Although I (and a lot of others too) prefer to be located somewhere where the temperatures are far more appareling, I have to admit, the winters in New York are a part of the package. And usually when it snows, the skies are bright blue, and these two together create a picture perfect scene. Plus, the following rule applies here too: the more dreary it is outside, the more cosy it is inside. You know what I mean? Drinking red wine and snacking by the fire place. I guess winter can be fun too…

And if you don’t have a fire place of your own, then these are your go to places. Cosy, warm and impeccable menus.

Il Buco

This restaurant located in Soho is the sum of tasteful, cosy and romantic. With the fire place flickering and the candles on your table, you feel although you’ve landed in some sort of artistic Mediterranean fairytale. The kitchen offers a variety of Italian and Spanish dishes and they taste divine. This place is definitely the sum of everything you’re looking for on a cold winter day.

The NoMad Hotel

The seats are covered in plush red velour. They’re so soft you nearly drown in them. The curtains are always shut and you hardly hear the the hustle and bustle of the city inside. It’s sacred. Other than that it looks like you’ve walked into a scene from The Great Gatsby. The tables, the fire places, the different rooms… And then then menu. Please order the chicken for two. It is The NoMad’s showpiece and after having it (twice) I can’t help but agree.

Alta

You’ll find Alta in a 19th century mansion located in Chelsea. My favorite place for tapas. The fire place, wooden canopy and the high ceilings make this place picturesque.

The Spotted Pig

The walls are covered in decorations: antlers, funky paintings… The couches are clad in the Scottish tartan and some of the stools might be a bit wobbly, but that’s alright. I’d prefer to sit on a wobbly stool than to be outside in the cold stuck in a queue. And this place always has a queue. It’s been that way for years. And I get it because The Spotted Pig is a given in New York. For its cosiness but most importantly for their meat. From burgers to steak, they serve the absolute best.

TINY’S

The name is definitely not a coincidence. Tiny’s is very ’tiny’ but so cosy and fun. With a big fire place and a absurd amount of American means with a hint of the French cuisine. The walls are covered with antique wallpaper and the ceiling is made out of tin. All completely in line with the building from 1810. And their tiny light pink outdoor patio is just as fun as inside.
