6 things that are suddenly everywhere

This happens to you when you’re on vacation. You lose the tunnel vision and suddenly start wondering if the things you see just appeared out of nowhere.

Butterflies

It’s true. Every house I visit (especially the new an beautifully decorated) has a butterfly composition (mainly in the kitchen); a frame with a display of real butterflies.

Juices and smoothies have been around for a while but suddenly they’re being served in mason jars with a whole drilled in the lid for the straw. What’s wrong with a normal glass?

Plastic glasses in expensive joints

When Liesbeth and I hung out on the rooftop terrace of Soho House our drinks were served in plastic glasses. Must be mandatory, or so we thought. As it happens every luxurious establishment that we visited afterwards did the same thing. Hence the feeling of plastic in your hand when eating outside while seated at perfect linen covered tables. All I can tell you is you’re in the right place.

Culottes 

Last year we all had something to say about them (common words used; stupid and unattractive). They might have been the fashion; we didn’t want to be caught dead or seen alive in them. This season we’re all converts. Yes I have one hanging in my closet and genuinely happy with it too.

Dresses of embroidered sheer lace

Have you seen pictures of the MET Gala? Basically there was no one there with an ordinary piece of textile on their bodies. Maybe just Chiara Ferragni who, as a MET virgin, was modestly dressed in a light pink Calvin Klein. Everyone else was holding it together with bits and pieces. Large inlays of lace, openings in the most surprising places; one would suspect the seamstress hadn’t made the deadline. Of course Beyoncé and the gang were telling everyone this was the latest.

Gladiator sandals

They we here last year but no one wore them. This year you see them everywhere. My opinion? I think fashion should be effortless or at least look effortless. These do not look easy to get into. And has anybody thought about what will happen when you’re out in the sun? I say Duo-penotti.
