7 hair mistakes
you’ll never make again
You probably spend a lot of money on the best shampoo, the best smelling conditioner and the most nourishing hair mask, that’s great, perfect and I’ll even give you some brownie points for that, but there might be a few things you need to change. Read and recognize yourself in at least half of this sum-up.
Conditioning all of your hair
No. You do not apply conditioner to all of your hair. You use shampoo for that part. Essentially you only need to condition the ends. If applying it to all of your hair you run the risk of it sinking out of shape much faster as it feels heavier. What a waste.
Good rinse
To stay on the subject of conditioners; you are probably in the shower for quite some time and the conditioner is kind of a last minute ritual. Make sure you rinse it well though, or else your hair will become greasy (don’t want that) and the residue can cause clogging and turn dirty. Yep, still talking about the conditioner. Didn’t know that did you?
Drying
I’ve said this before; freshly washed hair is best patted dry instead of a hard rubbing with a towel. The conditioner makes the hair soft and managable and of course a sturdy rub will ruin all that.
divide and conquer
Styling products should be evenly distributed over your hair. Sounds logical but very often mousse is only applied at the roots because that’s where you want the volume and maybe you prep the ends a little. Just evenly divide it through all your hair. You don’t want a birdsnest on your head, you want a coupe that will look and stay perfect every minute of the day.
Hairspray
The more the better. The closer you spray, the better your hair will hold. There is some truth in that but it might turn into a Peggy Bundy look, all hard and sticky. Spray from a distance of 30 cm, it won’t become sticky and you will still have that perfect hold.
upside down
If you always brush your hair starting up and brushing down you’re actually doing it wrong. You should start at the bottom. Afterwards it will be much easier to brush through your hair as all the tangles are usually at the bottom. You’ll see that your brush isn’t filled with so much hair anymore as you wont’t get stuck so often.
where there’s smoke
Whether you straighten, curl or blowdry your hair you’ll see smoke. Now I get the occasional scare now and then and I’m even afraid it will catch fire somehow, leaving me hairless, but really it’s only the styling product that’s burning. Not something to worry about, it’s only doing it’s job. Better the styling product that your own hair, right?
