7 things you can learn from stylist Danie Bles
Danie. I knew her name even before I rolled into this industry. My hubby was coaching Sylvie Meis and since her sense of style, back in the day, hadn’t really been adapted quite yet (wow what a polite way to put it), he introduced her to Danie Bles. And now look what happened. Ever since I met Danie, these are the things I have learned from her.
it’s not about you
You can be a world renowned stylist however, that means your job is still to style. Be aware of that. When Danie is at work, it’s never about her. I remember being present at one of Sylvie Meis’ shoots in Hamburg and aside from the styling, Danie also took care of the catering and even found time to clean out Sylvie’s closet.
That’s the spirit.
pamper and surprise
Danie is one of the best PR machines around. For Christmas she sends out the best packages filled with candles, the prettiest pots and pans, a book and a ton of other delicacies. And her goodie bags are on a whole other level. Danie would rather die that organize something without presents for her guests. Last Thursday she launched her new spring/summer line but unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend due to other obligations. Yet Danie still messaged me saying that there was a goodie bag with my initials on it patiently wait for me.
Work hard, play hard
When usually say that I am a hard worker, but then they haven’t met Danie yet. She styles, runs her own magazine, her own clothing line, a styling school and a vintage store. Luckily she treats herself to a well-earned holiday with her family every now and then for a bit of relaxation and an inspirational reboost. The next trip marked down in her agenda? Los Angeles.
Hair in the lead role
Danie has the best head of hair in the world. I’m pretty sure I don’t know anyone with such beautiful, thick and long locks. She doesn’t do too much with her hair apart from the occasional blow out. She used to get them every week but ever since she had kids, she can’t find the time. But for any special appearances, she makes sure she gets it done. And while hair dressers are busy taking care of her hair, she continues working along on her cell phone.
food is important
When Danie organizes a press trip, then you know you’ll be up for quite a treat when it comes to the food department. Something she finds very important. She’ll board a plane with her bags packed with her favorite delicacies from her favorite stores so as soon as the plane takes off, you’ll be treated to a feast. I hope to join in on one of her intercontinental flights some day soon.
Discretion is key
I can spend hours on end chatting with Danie, but no way will she ever reveal any inside information about Sylvie or any other VIP she dresses. Her lips are sealed shut.
Her shows are an experience
A runway with models is way too boring for Danie. She wants to create an experience. Last year she did this on Ibiza, and last Thursday she rented out a stunning old villa and created still lives of her models. All in cheerful matching outfits from ByDanie of course.
