7 things you need to know

about your skin

Every time you drop by a dermatologist, you leave with skin so soft, you wish it felt that way every day. And guess what? It’s possible because my favorite skin care experts have made a list of all their best tips. Follow these rules twice a day and then you’re be much closer to obtaining that soft skin. So here are the 7 rules you have to live by.

1.

Wash & go

The one thing that always gets repeated is that you have to cleanse your skin. But you have to keep in mind you can’t just wash it and then head out the door. It is important you make sure that whatever product you used to clean your skin has completely been rinsed off. If not, you will still clog up your pores, and that’s precisely what you are trying to avoid.

2.

Tricky places

Make sure every single area of your face has been carefully cleansed. Under your chin, the sides of your nose and your earlobes are places we often forget. And it’s a shame since they create a build up of dead skin cells.

3.

towel

The towel or cloth that you use to clean your face should itself be cleaned every day too. All the ‘dirt’ off your face is piled up on your towel so the next time you use it, you’ll wipe it right back onto you face. So clean it off with hot water and a bit of anti bacterial soap and then you’re good to use it again. Small effort, big result.

4.

cleaning too often

It sounds crazy, but ‘over-cleaning’ your face is possible too. Not if you do it twice a day, but if you clean it a multitude of times throughout the day (let’s say four times). Not a smart decision. It’ll only irritate your skin more and make it overly sensitive and change its structure.

5.

compromising on exfoliation

Scrubbing and exfoliating your skin is a must. It is an essential part of the cleansing ritual because it’ll get rid of the ‘dead’ outer layer. Exfoliating gives your skin it a clearer complexion and generally makes you look younger. It regulates your cell count and makes your skin smooth.

6.

Masks are not only for people with troubled skin

Taking the time to use a cleansing mask should be an important step in the cleansing ritual. This too gives you a clearer complexion. Masks are not only meant for people with oily skin or really dry skin. Use them before a night out when you know you’ll be using a lot of makeup. And in general I would advise you to use one three times a week.

7.

cleaning wipes

Only use these in case of an emergency. For unplanned sleep overs or for when you’re in need of a quick refreshment for example. Cleaning wipes don’t cleanse your entire face, so by only using these every day, your skin won’t receive a thorough cleanse.
