a shimmery and shiny christmas

– this is what you need –

The nude look will never go out of style, but with the holidays in the horizon, it’s time to add a bit of color, shine and glitter. Your eye game needs to be strong. Big and bold. Now some of the biggest makeup brands always know how to rock my boat when it comes to eye shadow color pallets, but when Christmas is right around the corner, they always manage to bring the most extraordinary collections to the table.

There’s one color that seems to be making a frequent appearance: purple. I completely get it if it might get you feeling a little off edge but relax. Everything you’ll come across below knows exactly how to tackle the color. Think of dark bordeaux colors and a touch of gold; chic and sexy. Some of these look so good, you almost don’t want to use them. So hereby the seven best pallets du moment that are going to help you shine throughout the holidays.

1. Yves Saint Laurent

Purple it is. YSL has gone all out this year with three different options. Purple still a bit too provocative? Try turning it into a smokey eye with a shade of dark brown. Up for a bit of provocation? Add a gold lining.

2. Dior

This year Dior has gone straight to the point; shimmer shimmer shimmer. A subtle touch on the corners of your eyes with an exuberant purple for all you dare devils.

3. Bobbi Brown

Definitely a favorite of mine. I use this palette regularly, except this festive edition has a bit more glitter and shine. The colors are vibrant  but not too over the top, so perfect for Christmas lunches. The glitter and smokey eye can be added as soon as the clock has stricken five and you’ll be dancing on the tables. This one’s definitely a keeper and perfect for the new year too.

4. Maybelline

No purple in this pallet, they’ve opted for nude. Don’t worry, it’s all but boring though. Most of these nude colors have quite a bit of shimmer and shine to turn a somewhat ‘safe’ look into an exciting one.

The Nudes Eyeshadow, €16,- Maybelline

5. The Body shop

Pretty purples, refined copper and great golden shades. Perhaps you might find the pigment a little less dramatic, but this affordable pallet can create some killer eye game.

Grooving Gold Eyeshadow Palette, €25,- The Body Shop

6. Yves Rocher

Five colors for endless amounts of variation. You can either keep it natural and add a touch of glitter here and there by adding gold and copper or you can spice everything up with a shade of purple. Very versatile.

7. Chanel

Let’s end this shimmery fest with perhaps the prettiest pallet of them all. I’m actually too afraid to even use it because it just looks too pretty to touch. But okay, if I have to then I will. Purple is the color of the season and Chanel has done a brilliant job of assimilating it with a touch of gold. If you’re worried you’re going to look like you just stepped out of the seventies, don’t worry, although it does scream Christmas fever.
