AMSTERDAM FASHION WEEK highlight:

SUPERTRASH F/W ‘15

It’s been on everyones lips for days: “Are you going to the SuperTrash show on Saturday?” We received the paper invites about a week ago and the location was spread by mouth. “We’re going underground.” Something about Amsterdam Central Station, something to do with a tunnel, something new, but the exact details remained top secret. And so it went back and fore and it was SuperTrash high and SuperTrash low, until Saturday and we all saw just how worthy Olcay was of all the pre commotion. She took us under Central Station into the new tunnel, which is not open to the public yet. Last year around 2000 people received a ticket, but that was cut down to 400 this year. The catwalk had a Delft Blue tiled wall border on one side and we all sat on the other. No SuperTrash show without Dutch celebs in the front row, so Anna Drijver, Beertje van Beers, Kim van Kooten, Bridget Maasland, Fred van Leer, Quinty Trustfull, Winonah de Jong and Nadja Hüpscher all took their places up front.

The theme of the collection was Modern Pioneers. “We’re celebrating how strong woman are in groups. The individualist manner of modern living bothers me so much, even though I take part sometimes.” According to Olcay in an interview with NU.nl. The clothing was stronger and cleaner than usual, with modern power suits and loads of must-have pieces. The jackets with capes will without a doubt be the top items and sold out immediately once they reach the racks. The models marched over the broad catwalk in formations of twos and threes, with a infinity stare and a difficult choreography to remember. The lights, the music, everything complimented each other and made it so much more than just a fashion show. Olcay took her bow flanked by her direct team, as a statement against the very individualist way of life we lead. The audience spontaneously started cheering and clapping as the first look walked by, and let me tell you, that does not happen very often.

The room was filled with so much energy, and as soon as the show was over, everybody was jumping up and down and couldn’t wait to head over the Art’otel on the opposite side of the road, for the after party in Bar 5&33. The gorgeous men behind the bar tirelessly served up gin & tonics, vodka mixes, wine and beer to the thirsty fashion folk and DJ’s Andela & Caron played tunes that loosened everyone’s hips up. I wobbled home at 3am. It was late, it was cold, I had 12 cm gold Louboutins on without pantyhose and the evening had left me tipsy. but man oh man, what a spectacle. Olcay once again proved that whatever she does, big or small, is always larger than life.
