What annoys me in other people’s kitchen
When I visit someone for the first time I really do like to have a good snoop through all the cupboards and cabinets. Yes, I’m naturally curious and I devour kitchens. What do they keep in the pantry? Are the knives sharp? Fresh herbs or dried? How important is (pretty) crockery to them? That sort of stuff. I also like to cook on other people’s stoves, but when I do irritations start to bubble up. So be prepared for when I happen to turn up on your doorstep, it’s the kitchen police speaking; and I have my own laws to abide by.
- Stupid bowls. With that I mean white and boring.
- And enough bowls please. Hummus I buy at a store I put in a cute bowl. Nuts; everything comes out of the package and goes into pretty little bowls.
- There has to be at least one good big knife. A sharp one.
- I can’t stand a tap that only trickles water. I want pressure. Lots of it.
- Tablespoons make me happy. A big version with decorations for in a bowl or pan.
- Another indispensable kitchen tool are tongs. You know those things you use at a BBQ. Seriously handy; vegetables, chicken, fish. You can easily prepare everything with this tool.
- Table salt and pepper from a tin. Not ordinary salt but sea salt. I’d like everything in a grinder please.
- I don’t respond too well to cheap olive oil. Truly, with a good quality olive oil you can pretend to be a super chef. Take that from me.
