the prettier, the smarter

I remember enjoying the fact that the prettiest girl is my class was also the stupidest. If anyone said anything about her silky thick hair or gorgeous smooth skin I would bring out the anecdotes.

But where’s the mountain?

Our math’s teacher was trying to explain the Pythagorean theorem, “ If you want to know how high the mountain is you could climb it and count and measure every step but you can also use a formula to calculate it. That’s when he brought out that abc-formula. At the end of the lesson the pretty girl raised her hand. unavoidably this question had to be asked; “ But where’s the mountain?”

My friends and I were very grateful that the dear lord had divided things so honestly and evenly. That pretty girl may have gotten that extra shot of beauty, we got that extra shot of brain cells.

But it’s not quite like that. Scientific research in England and the USA has proven that the IQ of beautiful people lies an average 14 points higher that the IQ of less-beautiful (ordinary) people. We also seem to associate physical attractiveness with a higher intelligence. I would say that’s accurate. Would you?

supermodels aren’t stupid

Meanwhile I find it very important to mention that a lot of supermodels are not stupid. Most of them have finished high school and even gone to college. This may not be the highest degree but considering they have missed big chunks of their school year at the cost of working on the set, it says a lot about their basic intelligence and dedication.

There are quite a few supermodels out there with a university degree. Brook Shields studied at Princeton, Emma Watson at Brown University and our own Nimuë Smit is currently studying at the UvA (University of Amsterdam). Now these just a few that came to mind.

Then there’s Cameron Russell for example. The Victoria’s Secret-model that studied politics at Columbia University. And you know something else about Russel? I was really touched by her Ted-ex talk. Check it out. That file you’ve been working on can wait a few minutes. In this talk she says that models may be the thinnest en prettiest people on the planet but she also says they’re the most insecure.

Aha! Finally justice, wel sort of.

So you see? It proves that beautiful, smart and successful people can be in secure. If  I didn’t like them so much I would say there was a little justice in that.
