Look, if I could, I would have my own glam squad like the Kardashians to do my makeup every morning. But alas, they come hand in hand with a rather hefty price tag so I guess I’ll just stick to doing it on my own. Which means there is always room for the occasional error. But don’t worry, don’t panic, it happens to the best of us and they’re dead easy to fix.
Eyeliner
In stead of having the perfect winged eyeliner, I always find myself walking around with a smudged swirl that no longer peaks in the corners. An error that might be made when applying it to begin with. Eyeliner’s a tough cookie. It’s one of those trial and error processes. In the morning you’ll probably use a cotton bud to make sure it’s perfectly winged, but you won’t be using those throughout the rest of the day. So here’s a tip: use waterproof products and a concealer as a base. These products guarantee everything will be fixed for an entire day.
The wrong foundation
One of those things we still see a bit too often: using the wrong foundation color on your face. I’ve had it happen to me before too. You’ll be in the store and think that you found the perfect shade and then figure out it’s at least three shades darker than you need once you’re home. The solution? Mix it with your day cream. It’ll make the color lighter and get rid of the blotchy look.
Lipstick
Lipstick is another challenge. I hardly ever wear it because I manage to smear it everywhere after three minutes. Use a concealer on your lips as a primer. You will no longer have to worry about having lipstick stuck on your teeth or in the creases of your lips.
Eyebrows
Too small, no shape or uneven; eyebrows are so important for your face. So if you aren’t a tweezing pro, it’s better you ditch the tweezers and grab some powder and a pencil. And if that too is too much of a challenge and your brows look way to dark then all you need is a brow brush. Brush those brows, the shade will fade, and then opt for a lighter shade to fill them up.
Mascara
Mascara needs to be applied in thin layers. And each layer needs a few seconds to fixate before applying the next. Always have a cotton bud somewhere in sight incase you get any mascara above your lashes. Don’t want your mascara to clot? Make sure you securely close it because clotted mascara means it’s dried out.
Spots
Woke up with a pimple on your face? Don’t go crazy with foundation because that will only emphasize your spot. Use a concealer with the same shade as your face. Make sure it’s a liquid one, spread it out evenly, and let it dry. Top it off with a bit of powder and you’re good to go.
Kijk, het liefst stap ik elke ochtend in de stoel van Elles of Wim Thompson om een lik verf op m’n gezicht te krijgen en m’n wimpers even in de krul te laten zetten. Maar goed, ik heb niet zoveel tijd, dus ben ik zelf maar in de weer met de poeder en de kwast. Herken jij vast ook, dat tijdgebrek. En daardoor sluipt er heus wel eens een foutje in. Geen zorg, pas de paniek, het kan namelijk hartstikke makkelijk opgelost worden.
Eyeliner
In plaats van een strak lijntje op het ooglid zit er gedurende de dag een gevlekt lijntje dat niet meer in een mooie swirl naar boven loopt, maar inmiddels sneu naar beneden hangt. Of je maakt in het begin al de fout door uit te schieten. Eyeliner is ook best lastig. Het is echt een kwestie van oefening baart kunst. In het begin kun je met een wattenstaafje corrigeren, maar gedurende dag niet. Dan is het handig als je waterproof producten gebruikt hebt en een concealer als basis. Gegarandeerd dat dat de hele dag op z’n plek blijft.
Verkeerde foundation
Gister schreef ik nog dat wij, Dutchies, daar echt heer en meester in zijn: het kiezen van de verkeerde kleur foundation. Nu graai ik soms ook een verkeerde kleur uit het schap of denk ik in de winkel dat ‘ie perfect is en thuisgekomen is die drie kleuren donkerder. Los je op door het te mixen met dagcrème. Dan maak je het sowieso een stuk lichter en werk je vlekjes en oneffenheden toch weg.
Lippenstift
Lippenstift is een dingetje. Daarom draag ik het ook nooit, want het zit na drie minuten echt overal waar je het eigenlijk niet wilt hebben. Concealer op de lippen is eigenlijk een perfecte primer. Daardoor gaat het geen kant op en hoef je je ook niet druk te maken om lippenstift die in lijntjes gaat zitten of een afdruk op je tanden geeft.
Wenkbrauwen
Te smal, vormeloos of een gatenkaas; wenkbrauwen zijn echt heel belangrijk voor je gezicht. En als je niet zo’n held bent in epileren, moet je aan de slag met poeder en potlood. En zelfs dát is lastig, want soms wordt het al gauw zo donker dat het eerder getatoeëerde streepjes lijken dan natuurlijke brows. Los je op met een wenkbrauwkammetje. Veel kammen en je kamt de poeder uit de brow. Tijd om die weer met een lichter kleurtje op te vullen.
Mascara
Mascara breng je in dunne laagjes aan. En tussen elk laagje wacht je even een paar seconden zodat het kan fixeren. Daarna houd je even een wattenschijfje boven je oog en knipper je een paar keer met je ogen. Je voorkomt op deze manier afdrukken boven je ogen. Gebeurt het toch? Laat het dan helemaal drogen, dan kun je het daarna makkelijk wegvegen. Is het nog nat, dan wordt het namelijk alleen maar erger als je eraan gaat zitten. Wil je niet dat je mascara gaat klonteren? Draai je mascara goed dicht, want klonterige mascara betekent dat ‘ie uitgedroogd is.
Pukkeltjes
Last van een pukkel? Smeer er niet meteen alleen maar foundation op, want die benadrukt alleen maar. Werp even een blik op deze tips, en niemand zal meer een puk bij je bespeuren.
