how to make fabulous vases

–From things lying around at home-

I have never actually bought a vase in my life. I find it a huge waste of money. Yes, okay, sometimes one those large ones, but never ever one of those little ones to put a single flower into. I love decorating with single flowers. Whenever I get given a standard boring bouquet, I take it apart and place the flowers into various little vases and places them all over, in the living room, bedroom, toilet and kitchen.

Wine bottles
Empty wine bottles can easily be transformed into cute vases or candle holders. Easy and simple, without doing anything to them. I did once take a spray paint to them, and then scratched some text into it. Sounds involved  but it isn’t. Buy some spray paint, place the bottles outside on a piece of grass, spray them and wait patiently till they have dried and hardened. Then scratch a word or a symbol onto them with a key or a knife. Always good for housewarming gifts.

Light bulbs
I have a few vases from Serax, which are upside down light bulbs. You can make them yourself, the only downside is that they can’t stand. Real light bulbs are not flat on the top. But. If you break one, don’t throw it away. Take the inside out carefully and drill two holes in the silver edge. Thread some metal thread through, hang them up and you’ve got yourself a hanging vase. Just as cute.

Diptyque
Jet and I both have the occasional
Diptyque candle at home, and we both feel horrible when they’re used up. Sad about the scent but also a waste because they are pricey. Don’t worry. Jet came up with a solution. Melt or scrape the left over wax out and you have a perfect pen pot or toothbrush glass. Looks chic and gives your candle a second life. With a little luck your toothbrush will smell like Diptyque and not like toothpaste.

Old cans
Old fashioned tomato tins and olive cans also look fun in the kitchen. A waste to throw them away. So. Clean them out well (no dishwasher, because the sticker will come off unless they’re genuine old cans) and you can store and show off your kitchen utensils in them.

Perfume bottles
You can also give a second life to your Chanel, Dior or Sisley perfumes. A question of removing the lid, rinsing them clean and popping a flower in. Smells doubly delicious.
