Why is everybody doing this?
Just for the fun of it, here’s something outta the old box. A long long time ago when I was chief editor at RTL Boulevard, a daily talkshow, we had dinner with a famous Dutch lawyer hoping to pull him in as a crime expert.
Now at that time Bram Moszkowicz, as he was called, was still king of the courtroom and it was the best service we ever received in a restaurant, everyone was in awe of his presence. Bram was charming, he drank, smoked, in a word; great company. But there was just one tiny thing, his décolleté, as the French call it. He had buttoned up the bottom two buttons of his shirt and left the rest open, like Galliano did after a Dior show and three months of intensive training. While recording the show it was quite the challenge getting Bram to button up a little higher. Showing some chest was hot, even for men but no one went as far as Bram.
Where is is Bram Moszkowicz when you need him?
After this buttoning down the V-neck was introduced. Some considered it a little too gay when a man showed of his chest but hey, it was pleasant enough. But then everything changed. Everywhere I look I see people all buttoned up, every single button fastened, even the top one.
This time I was the one with the gay thoughts; thinking look at those preppy looking guys. But now you see women and straight men all buttoned up too. In the love and war of fashion everything is acceptable. It’s just that I feel a little claustrophobic looking at it.
Can’t we just move on to another trend? Where is Bram Moszkowicz when you really need him?
