You did not know this about champagne
Research differs. According to one we drink half a glass of champagne a year other results show we drink a bottle a year per person, in both cases it’s not much. I therefore have a strong suspicion they didn’t take the Amayzine team into account, we drink an average bottle a week. Seriously? Half a glass, a year? How is that possible? I really don’t get that. Time to give that average a boost. Planning an office drink on Friday afternoon? Pop open a bottle and casually mention the “did you know that..” facts I’m about to tell you. Then you have bubbles AND eternal recognition.
A champagne bottle holds three times more pressure than an auto tire. That’s why the bottom of the bottle is so thick, so it doesn’t explode by accident.
A cork bursting out of a bottle can reach a speed of 64 km per hour.
You shouldn’t pop the cork but relieve the bottle of its cork with a sis.
A standard bottle holds 49 million bubbles (don’t ask me how they managed to count then but it’s on the internet, so it’s true).
There are 10.000 different kinds of champagne brands.
A sparkling wine can only be called champagne when it comes from the Champagne region in France.
In the region of Champagne 980 million bottles are kept underground until they’re ready for consumption.
They’re not really in the ground but kept underground in lang dark tunnels. The tunnels add up to a distance of 200 kilometers.
It’s best to wash champagne glasses by hand and not to use the dishwasher; salt and dishwasher detergent aren’t good for the bubbles.
And finally: anyone who is collects champagne labels is called a “oenolabelphile” and if you collect the caps you’re a “placomusophile”. Sounds a lot posher than “alcoholic”.
